Brava: Councilor calls for greater proactivity of young people in seizing opportunities
The councilor responsible for Education, Training and Youth at Brava City Council today asked young people to be more proactive in seizing the opportunities available to them.
Speaking to Inforpress, Mário Soares explained that regarding entrepreneurship and empowerment of young people in the municipality, the municipality has made these various opportunities available.
In the list of opportunities, he indicated training, often free, facilitation through partnership protocols, incentives for opening small businesses, among other initiatives, but he highlighted that young people have not always seized these opportunities.
"I don't remember when so many opportunities arose for young people from Brave", said this councilor, referring to the training opportunities that arise both on the island and abroad and that some on the island often do not materialize due to difficulties in getting a reasonable number of subscribers to get started.
As a more recent case, he pointed out the difficulty in getting a sufficient number of young people to start training in the environmental tourism enhancement project in the village of Fajã d´Água, in addition to the poor candidacy of young people from Brave responding to offers from the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Cape Verde, which made 500 vacancies available nationwide and another 200 offered by CERMI.
Still on the opportunities that the municipality makes available to young people, recently, he informed that the city council sent two young people to the island of Fogo to participate in a “false ceiling” training, a training that will also include young people from all municipalities on the island of Fire.
In this path, progress was also made when, last May, a group of young people completed a level V course in Accounting Management, where some of these young people are in internships, others are already employed and some, through the private initiative of an emigrant, they have already completed a training period and are going to be submitted to an evaluation, where the company intends to hire five of these young people.
He also recalled the case of a young man from the locality of Lomba Tantum, David Garcia, who, in order to overcome unemployment, decided to embark on the path of entrepreneurship, investing in the sale of fish and requested support for the acquisition of a motorcycle with a trailer, in order to make your move easier.
In this regard, he recalled that the municipality has mobilized partnerships and the motorcycle has already been acquired to be delivered to the owner, shortly.
He also spoke of cases of young people who took courses in the area of cooking and pastry and who are working and even gave job opportunities to other young people.
As for young people who are creating their jobs, he revealed that the council offers them all possible incentives, from exemption from paying licenses, and those who use the spaces of the municipality are exempt from paying rent for a period of six months.
“These are favorable conditions that the chamber has been creating to give opportunities to young people, but youth need to be more proactive, and try to seize opportunities”, he vented, regretting that it is sad to invite some young people to participate in some training actions , knowing that they are lacking, that the market needs trained people in the area, with bribes at zero cost, but even so they answer “no”.
Finally, he reinforced again that the municipality is always open to create conditions to promote entrepreneurship, self-employment, and look for partners in order to have qualified and qualified people to respond to the demands and needs of the island.
